The Economy of Agra is an agrarian one with majority of the population engaged into cultivation. The climate of Agra is such that it ideal for the cultivation of a lot of grains, sugarcane and other food products. With the taj Mahal and other Mughal architectures being a part of the city many are actively involved in the tourism industry. Before the introduction of any kind of industries almost all in Agra were actively involved in traditional fields. But today many in Agra are actively involved in manufacturing, retail, real estate, heavy engineering and metallurgy. Besides processed food and retail chains are also coming up in Agra in a major way. With the rise of these modern industries the Economy of Agra is expected to undergo a sea change within a few years time.
With more and more schools and colleges and vocational colleges coming up in the city in a major way, the younger generation in Agra are more aware and keen about increasing the GDP of Agra. Better preparation from the government and other related organizations too have helped the growth of the city in a major way. Today the Economy of Agra is enjoying a brighter period with more and more people getting employed every year.
However, not many of the women in Agra are employed. Most are seen taking care of the household. Although most of the farming work and construction work sees women workers their salary is minimal. As a result a lo remains to be done to improve the dismal state of the women in Agra. Women in the cities are usually better off than the rural women but rooms of improvement remain there as well. The Economy of Agra is dependant on the average income of both men and women, hence a wholesome growth on both the fronts alone can ensure a developed economy for the state.
