Agra Fort is an epitome of the Mughal architecture and a glimpse at the beautiful monument will show the greatness of the Mughal architectural style. There are very few places in India which has can boast of such varied attractions, other than Agra. The beautiful Agra Fort is among one such beautiful attraction. This monument speaks of the grandeur of the Mughal rulers. Agra was an important city in India during the Mughal rule. Thus, many monuments are found here which has speaks of the beautiful architectural style of Mughals. This great monument of Agra Fort was built of red sandstone on the banks of river Yamuna. Though Taj Mahal is one of the biggest attraction of Agra, but the Agra Fort is no less in beauty than the Taj. The Agra Fort is located only 2 km away on the north western part of Yamuna.
This beautiful monument was built between 1565 to 1571 and the foundation stone of this beautiful building was founded by great Mughal emperor. However, Akbar did not live to see this beautiful toms, it was during the time of his grandson, Shahjahan. Like all other beautiful Mughal monuments, Agra Fort also has crescent like structure, on the eastern side there is a flat slope and there are huge walls which face the river. There are two main gates in Agra Fort, the Delhi Gate and the Amar Singh Gate. The Delhi Gate in Agra Fort is the original entrance gate and it leads to the inner chamber of the Fort, known as the Elephant Gate. But the new entrance is through the Amar Singh Gate in Agra Fort. It is from here the most of the visitors enter the premises of the Fort.
This is one of the biggest tourist attraction of the country and thousands of tourists visit here every year. The best time to visit Agra Fort is from November to February and the Fort remains open daily from 6a.m. to 5.30p.m.
