The city of Agra boasts of many beautiful Mughal architectural monuments. These remains of the Mughal period gives the city a character of its own and distinguishes Agra from all other cities in India. Of the various historical monuments in Agra, Itmad-ud-Daula is one of the most beautiful. This is one of the finest example of Mughal architectural artistry. Itmad-ud-Daula is situated on the banks of river Yamuna and the flowing water of Yamuna heightens the beauty of Itmad-ud-Daula. The beautiful Itmad-ud-Daula was built by the empress Noor Jehan. This building was constructed in the memory of her father Mirza Ghiyas Beg. In the adjacent rooms in Itmad-ud-Daula there are tombs of all the other members of the family.
Itmad-ud-Daula is perhaps as beautiful as the Taj Mahal and before the Taj came into existence, Itmad-ud-Daula was the most beautiful representation of Mughal architectural style. The construction for Itmad-ud-Daula was completed in the year 1628 and the main tomb of Itmad-ud-Daula is made of white marble. There is also a cenotaph here of Noor Jehan's mother, Asmat Begum. Because of its beautiful artistic creation, Itmad-ud-Daula is often mentined as the “baby Taj”.
The beautiful engravings and designs in the interiors of Itmad-ud-Daula makes this one of the most beauiful creation of Mughal architecture. There are mosaic designs and lattice in the walls of Itmad-ud-Daula. Like all other Mughal architecture, there is also a garden infront Itmad-ud-Daula. The whole appearance of Itmad-ud-Daula deserves to be one of the world's best form of architectural delight.
