Jahangir Mahal |
Jahangir Mahal is one of the biggest attraction in Agra and is a must visit place in the city. In order to know about Mughal architecture, Jahangir Mahal is the best place. In the interiors of Jahangir Mahal there are many beautiful designs and this makes the place all the more interesting for the visitors. The Jahangir Mahal was built by Akbar as a token of love for his son. This is the biggest and perhaps the best private residential place in the city. This structure of Jahangir Mahal stands as an example of a perfect blend of Hindu architectural style and central Asian architectural style. As against the complete Mughal architectural style, this combined style is truly an exception.
Within Jahangir Mahal is the beautiful Khas Mahal, which is covered completely by white marble. The rooms in Jahangir Mahal are so planned that the rooms are cool and are a wonderful place to relax. Another important chamber in Jahangir Mahal is the Shish Mahal, which was meant for the girls and women in the family. There are small mirrors engraved within the walls of the room. The hall in Jahangir Mahal was the dressing room of Jodhabai, a Hindu queen of Akbar. Thus, this area of the palace has a Hindu architectural style. This palace was later used by Jahangir's queen Noorjahan.
A typical Mughal architectural style is having garden infront of the palace. The garden infront of Jahangir Mahal is known as Anguri Bagh, or garden of grapes. Another major attraction in Jahangir Mahal is the huge bowl called Hauz-i-Jehangiri. The specilaty of this bowl is that it is carved out of a single piece of stone. This building is a perfect blend of Hindu and Mughal architectural style and there are very few monuments in the country, which can boast of such architectural artistry.
