Sikandra Fort is an inseparable part of Agra and is only a couple of distance away from the heart of the city. Akbar was the greatest of the Mughal emperor and he himself had built many monuments in Agra. One of these beautiful monuments in Agra is Sikandra Fort. One of the main reason for Sikandra Fort being so important is that it had been a main resting place of Akbar. The construction of this building shows the broad mind of Akbar. This is the place where Akbar rested during his last phase.
The vastness in the structure of Sikandra Fort symbolizes the open mindedness and religious toleration of Akbar. Like other Mughal buildings, Sikandra Fort too had beautiful garden infront of the gateway. The building was built of red sandstone and amidst the colorful garden, the red and mighty structure of Sikandra Fort will catch the attention of all the visitors. The tomb of Akbar was designed by the emperor himself and the site of the tomb too was designed by him.
There is only one way through which visitors can enter Sikandra Fort and this way is from the southern part of Sikandra Fort. Entry to Sikandra Fort needs through ticket and the ticket counter of Sikandra Fort is on the left side of the main gate of Sikandra Fort. The garden in Sikandra Fort is one of the major attraction here and it surrounds the main tomb. There are high walls that surround the tomb in Sikandra Fort. The decoration in the walls of Sikandra Fort is amazing. They have intricate mosaic patterns on them. The designs on the marble floors have mosaic patterns. The ground floor in Sikandra Fort has many memorial tombs of various family members.
